Dirty Bomb coming to Steam next year

Some good news for FPS fans this evening which will make life easier and entice more people to play the shooter from Splash Damage.

Splash Damage fired over an email this evening which announces that their currently in development FPS Dirty Bomb will be coming to Steam.

Since partnering with Nexon, Dirty Bomb has only been available to play via the Nexon game client if you’re on the closed beta test. Having used the Nexon service, I’m pleased to see this partnership with Valve materialise because it’s going to open the game up to many more players when it eventually launches. The Nexon client is also not exactly great and I would rather be playing it through Steam.

The update does say “You will soon be able to play Dirty Bomb exclusively on Steam” so it’s not clear whether the Nexon client is being ditched completely. It also says they’e been looking for “partners” which indicates there will be more than one way to play the game.

The note from Splash Damage that dropped into our email box this evening, which has been addressed to backers, reads as follows:

“We’ve been hard at work finding the right partners for Dirty Bomb as we move towards launch, and we’re pleased to announce the first – Valve.

“As we put the finishing touches on the Steam implementation over the holidays, the Live Service will be suspended. We’ll miss you, but hopefully your family won’t. Why not use this free time to show how much you care. In January, all your steamiest dreams willl come true when Dirty Bomb returns. Keep your ears to the keyboard in the meantime, as more information will be fed through the Dirty Bomb forums and email.”

OK, so not great news if you were on the closed beta test and fancied some Dirty Bomb action over the break, but  it’s a very positive move by Splash Damage.
