These physics apply to any part of the game, and its testament to the commitment of the team that even on levels, such as conveyer belt-mini golf type levels, the physics work so well.
Yes, there is a mini-golf type game, and it's a completely different game mode to puck attack. And there's more in the shape of co-operative and competitive play modes. With all of the new toys, such as the incredibly fun slingshot and canon, at your disposal, you can't but have fun with this game.
The greatest thing, other than the size of the game, the new content and the post launch support - which I'll get into in just a wee bit - is the inclusion of the animals into the game itself. No more will the animal blox ‘poof' when you hit them or throw them across the screen. Instead they're integrated into the game and can be used to complete any aspect of the mission you're playing. There are also rivalries between certain animal blox too and it's common for you to see the chickens attack the monkeys, or the penguins taking on the cows. Couple this with the much-refined level editor, and within minutes you'll have an animal blox massacre level that PETA would be proud of.
And what would BBBP be if it didn't have an online mode? This is, of course, one of the few things the previous game lacked, but I am glad to report it has been resolved this time around. Nintendo, famously protective of it's audience, has allowed the EA gang adminster content submitted by users in the level editor to the EA server. Now before you go off making your Boom Blox creations (whatever they may be) be warned: all submitted content will be vetted before being released publically. In addition to this, Rahimi told us that EA will also continue to provide new levels and DLC for the game after release, which means there will always be something to look forward to. And to top it off, all the content and all the connections to the EA servers are free. No sausages here.![]()
What BBBP has done is no small feat. EA has left the heart of the game the same, but given it a complete makeover as well as some extra goodies. It's like giving a super-model cake, knowing that she's not going to get fatter, clumsier or sluggish if she eats it, but more attractive because she's eating 'real' food.
If you want something that works on the Wii, is fun for everyone and is a good example of how to make puzzle games work, this is the game for you. Equally, if you want something you can play and forget about, this game is for you. You see Boom Blox was always going to be that game which truly appeals to all audiences, a game that all publishers with casual labels will be watching and probably kicking themselves for not having.
