New Continent
A whole new continent is being added for players to explore and quest in. Northrend, the icy land in the north of Azeroth, is the home of new monsters, new allies, and above all else, new adventures. There are no less than nine zones in Northrend, each unique and posing different challenges to players. Several new five-man dungeons are ready and waiting to be conquered, including two that are suitable to be tried the moment players enter Northrend.
The reason players will be called to Northrend is because it's the home of the biggest and baddest villain WoW has ever seen to date... The Lich King.
Bigger Foes
The new arch villain in WotLK is, as you may guess from the title, the Lich King, formerly Arthas
Menethil. Players of the Warcraft RTS game will be familiar with the storyline behind this character. Arthas fought against the scourge to protect his father's lands, Lordaeron, from the invasion, but after travelling to Northrend to confront the leader of the Scourge, he became corrupted by the Runesword Frostmourne, destroyed the Lich King's prison, and fused with him to become the new Lich King.Players in WotLK will face the challenge of fighting their way through the Scourge and a whole host of other evil creatures and organisations, to confront the Lich King himself.
New Capital City
The main hub in Northrend is Dalaran. There's a lot of history with this city, but until the expansion, Dalaran has been hidden behind a huge purple magical dome in Hillsbrad Foothills. This city is home to the Kirin Tor, a society of Mages, who preferred to reside behind the safety of the barrier, until now.
In Wrath of the Lich King, the site of the dome in the Hillsbrad Foothills will become a huge crater in the ground, with the essence of magic still lingering in the air. The Mages of the Kirin Tor have transported Dalaran to Northrend, and it now hovers high above the ground north of the zone Dragonblight. It will be the new major city in the game, and as such it will be neutral. Therefore, both Horde and Alliance will be able to go about their business in peace there.
