I was told by one of the guys that was talking me through the game as I played that they had real pilots testing the flight models and physics of the game, and you can tell. I was also told that when the game was released, you would be able to jump into a virtual c**pit and actually see the aircraft you were in. In this preview version all I got to see was the a** of the aircraft as well as the removed camera view which showed you the complete battle-air field.

HAWXThis game reminded me a lot of Afterburner, that old skool Master System game that got me into flying in the first place. This was just cleaner, prettier and more accurate to flight models and also gave you the option to fly wherever the hell you felt like flying.

HAWX is also looking to become part of the Endwar gaming experience, where you’ll be able to respond to calls from your selected team for air strikes, making this an extremely attractive game to have in your library. All Ubi need to do is make a warship simulator and you’ll have an incredible fighting universe that is unparalleled anywhere else.

If you’re an arcade flight sim fan, or if you just want to dip in to flying around like a lunatic in one of the worlds most advanced aircraft, then this game is definitely for you. Pilots and virtual pilots might find this a bit of a bore after a while, but again, it’s not worth discounting completely. We’ll see what the final version has to bring, but in all honesty, this is a pretty good game that can only get better.
