Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons Announced

EA and DICE know they're onto a good thing with the Battlefield series so today they've announced the next title, Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons.

Not a new full game but an expansion pack, Secret Weapons will offer 16 new vehicles to the popular shooter, new weapons, characters and scenarios. Things gamers can expect to see include the following:

  • Horton HO 229 "Flying Wing" that is equipped with 30 mm machine guns and missiles.
  • U.S. Sherman tank with a T-34 Calliope rocket launcher,
  • U.S. T95/T28 Super Heavy Tank
  • Sturmtiger (naval gun mounted on Tiger tank)
  • U.S. Goblin jetfighter
  • C-47 cargo plane that will serve as a mobile spawn point.
  • American Armstrong Whitworth AW-52 advanced fighter
  • German Wasserfall guided anti-air missile
  • German Natter rocket plane.
So why the title Secret Weapons? EA and DICE are now adding special prototype weapons including the German Rocket Pack which should be a blast. There are also seven new weapons including one-shot kill knives, the Bren light machine gun, Remington Auto 5 shotgun and the Mauser K98 grenade rifle.

The game will also feature eight new World War II combat campaigns including the V2 research facility Peenemuende and Hitlers hideout The Eagle's Nest with other missions spread over various regions including summer in Prague and a winter battle in Norway.

If that wasnn't enough to get you drooling, there is also the British Commando and German Elite troops and a new "objective based" gameplay mode where players will be tasked with a specific objective such as destroying a secret facility in order to win the battle. This sounds like a pretty good expansion with enough added to make it worth the purchase.
