Ubisoft 'server transition' will take games offline

Might & Magic: Heroes VIUbisoft has announced that a handful of PC and Mac titles will be unplayable while it 'transitions' (that's a fancy corporate term for 'moves') them to a new server. Mac owners of Assassin's Creed (the first one), Splinter Cell Conviction and The Settlers will be unable to play them from 7 February to an undisclosed date.

On the PC side of things, the affected games are Tom Clancy's HAWX 2, Settlers 7 and Might & Magic Heroes VI. Again, the games will go offline on 7 February. Ubisoft hasn't made it clear when they will return.

"This move ultimately will help us improve the maintenance of our infrastructure" says an anonymous Ubisoft spokesperson.

Bad luck if you're a legitimate paying customer, but this is the price of Ubisoft's DRM anti-piracy measures. Pirated copies of the above games, of course, will remain unaffected during the downtime.
