Microsoft: Nintendo are not competing with other manufacturers
31 Jan 2012 at 16:01:21 by John RobertsonMicrosoft's marketing director of France, Cedrick Delmas, has said that Nintendo's position today's videogame market means that they are no longer in direct competition with other console manufacturers.
Speaking in regards to the future successor of the Xbox 360, Delmas pointed out that Microsoft does not focus on what Nintendo is doing and that the launch of the Wii U (expected this year) will not influence their next console - including its release/announcement date.
“We’re not here to counter Nintendo and they’re not here to fight the other manufacturers," said Delmas. "Nintendo has put itself in a different cycle, they’re advancing at their own pace.”
Indeed, with the Wii, Nintendo had certainly positioned themselves in a different (if overlapping) market from the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Whether or not that will be the case for the Wii U, with Nintendo's statements regarding strong third-party support in bringing 'core' games to the system, remains to be seen.
Delmas also said that E3 2012 will NOT see Microsoft reveal a new console.
