There was a brief spell when Netflix (the streaming and DVD rental service) was considering offering videogame rentals, but it coincided with a failed separation of streaming and DVD services and an aborted name change. When the company reversed those plans, it was unclear whether the game rental concept had also been shelved.
Today, there is no longer any confusion, as Netflix has announced during its earnings call that the company will no longer be pursuing videogame rental plans and no longer has an interest in that area.
A move into a cloud-based videogame service (in the manner of OnLive or Gaikai) was also dismissed.
