Micro Machines: Motorstorm RC announced for PS3 and Vita

Motorstorm RC

Sony have today announced Motorstorm RC, a new entry in the popular off-road racing franchise - it will be a PS Vita launch title. It's also coming to PlayStation Network.

Motorstorm RC will be cross-compatible between the two systems, allowing PS3 and Vita players to play together online.

I got myself a little hands-on time earlier today at a Sony press event. It plays a little like the Micro Machines games that appeared on the Sega Mega Drive (and later the original PlayStation) in that you're controlling small radio controlled cars - hence the 'RC' title - from an isometric perspective.

As you'd expect from a Motorstorm title, visuals are crisp and detailed and everything moves along at a frantic pace. There are 16 tracks set across the usual locales of desert, ice, urban and jungle.

An Autolog-esque feature known as 'Pitwall' keeps you up to date with your friends' progress and their latest lap/race times. The PS3 edition supports four player local co-op. Sadly, however, local multiplayer is conducted through split-screen rather than the single screen 'fight-to-stay-in-the-picture' setup of Micro Machines. Shame.

Anyway, that aside, it did play very nicely on both systems.
