League of Legends is popular, 4m play every day

RLeague of Legends: Clash of Fatesiot Games has revealed that League of Legends is played by 4 million players every day. The game was release in October 2009, but only recently has it achieved significant success. Since July 2011 the daily player base has risen 280 per cent, making League of Legends one of the top five PC games played in Europe and the North America.

The game has a total registered player base of 30 million users worlwide. Currently monthly active users sit at 11.5 million and peak concurrent users has topped 1.3 million. Over a billion matches have been played since launch.

Not quite Modern Warfare 3 numbers but impressive nonetheless.

Where it does beat Modern Warfare 3 is in the generous nature of its competition prizes. The game is about to enter its second competitive season and is putting up a total prize pool of $5 million. That figure makes it the largest prize pool in eSports history.

"The incredible passion and dedication of our players is positively inspiring," said Brandon Beck, CEO of Riot Games. "Our community's boundless enthusiasm is why they are central to every decision we make at Riot."
