Activision apologises for poor Call of Duty Elite service

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 launched this week (I know, it came out of nowhere), accompanied by the new Call of Duty Elite premium subscription service. Unfortunately, demand for the game means service has been 'Intermittent', prompting Activision into an apology and the gift of 30 free days as compensation to members.

The latest Elite Service status notice says "On Call of Duty Elite, we are having trouble scaling the service to meet demand. Many of you are trying to get in and unfortunately, you can’t right now". It continues, "At launch, our registration and login systems were crushed by gamers trying to enter the Elite site at the same time. We have now fixed the registration and login systems, but we have found that the greater than expected demand is crashing servers".

More servers are promised to be coming online soon, and Elite access is going to be (temporarily) limited, while capacity is expanded and tests are carried out. Naturally, if you've spent $50 USD on a years subscription, you're going to want some kind of recompense for this downtime.

That'll be coming your way in the form of 30 free days. According to Activision, "to ensure that every premium member receives their full money’s worth, we are immediately and automatically extending your membership to Call of Duty Elite by 30 days at no additional cost".

If you're twiddling your thumbs waiting to get into a multiplayer game, why not take some time to read John's review of the title.
