Assassin's Creed to come without always-on DRM

Ubisoft have confirmed that Assassin's Creed: Revelations will ship on PC without the controversial always-on DRM system. Further, Ubisoft have hinted that they will be moving away from the system entirely in the future.

Essentially, always-on DRM requires the PC in question to remain online while the game is played - irrespective of whether you're playing solo or in multiplayer.

Promoters of the system have argued that it should not be an issue because most PCs capable of running such games are connected to the internet. Critics have largely rallied around the idea that when a publisher's DRM validation network is offline (for technical reason or, more recently, by the hand of hanckers) then they are refused access to a game they bought legitimately.

Our review of Assassin's Creed: Revelations is coming next week.
