Golden Joystick Awards winners announced - Portal 2 is GOTY

Golden Joystick AwardsThe 29th Golden Joystick Awards have been announced today with Portal 2 taking home the game of the year honours.

Held at the Park Plaza in London today, this year's awards didn't turn up any huge surprises, what with the awards being based on votes from the gaming community.

Publishers and developers have been encouraging their fans to go and cast their votes for that past couple of months leading up to today's award ceremony.

Blizzard managed to scoop two awards, one in the MMO category for World of Warcraft:Cataclysm, which was an obvious and probably incorrect choice, and they also picked up Strategy Game of the Year for StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty. FIFA 11 deservedly scooped the Sports Game of the Year and Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood was voted best Action/Adventure Game of the Year.

The One to Watch category was picked up by Bethesda for Skyrim which was a good choice in a category overflowing with promising looking titles. Congratulations to all the winners.
