ITV's Arma II blunder investigated by Ofcom

Last month's ITV blunder, in which the channel accidentally aired footage from Arma II as a genuine IRA video, is to be investigated by media regulators.

The segment aired as part of a documentary called Exposure: Gaddafi and the IRA, and purported to show IRA members shooting down a British army helicopter. In fact, the sequence was a player-created clip from the game Arma II.

A similarly named piece of footage, featuring an actual IRA attack on a helicopter, was also available on YouTube, and this mix-up seems to have been the source of the mistake. ITV issued a statement after the incident, blaming "human error".

Yesterday, regulator Ofcom announced that it would be launching an investigation into the affair to determine whether any broadcasting rules were breached.
