Red Dead shifts 11 million units, L.A. Noire 4 million

RDR Undead Nightmare ImageHowever, Take-Two still fail to make a profit.

Most games companies would do anything to ship a combined 15 million units for only two games. However, for Take-Two those kinds of numbers are common place - thanks in no small part to the success of Rockstar titles Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption and L.A. Noire.

Since its release in May 2010, Red Dead Redemption has moved 11 million copies. Included in that number is two million copies of the 'Undead Nightmare' expansion pack. Crime-capper L.A. Noire, released earlier this year, has sold 4 million.

However, despite the strong sales of the those two franchises, Take-Two still failed to turn a profit. For the Q1 fiscal period ending 30 June, the company reported a loss of £5.3 million ($8.6 million), compared to a profit of £16.8 million ($27.4 million) for the same period last year. Total sales revenue was also down to £230 million ($375.4 million) from £204.5 million ($375.4 million).

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick also revealed that Duke Nukem Forever made a profit despite poor review scores.
