Black Rock Studios, developers of Pure and Split/Second, have been shut down by Disney.
"Disney Interactive Studios confirms that Black Rock Studios' current project has not been greenlit for further development, consequently the company informed employees yesterday of the intent to enter a consultation process on the proposal to close the studios," a statement from the company reads.
The developer had already suffered substantial layoffs in May. Black Rock's current project, said to be an online RTS titled Champions Alliance, will no longer see release.
Some minor consolation is the formation of two new studios from the remnants of the old. Split/Second director Nick Baynes will be forming Roundcube Entertainment and four other Black Rock department directors who've obviously been watching The Goonies have created ShortRound Games.
