LEGO Universe opening free to play zones

Lego Universe is going partially free to play starting from this August.

The latest title to change subscription models is LEGO Universe and players will be able to play for free as long as they like in the free to play zone which includes two adventure zones and one player property area for building virtual LEGO models.

If you like the game then there's an option to become a paid member for $10 per month. The other major change is that the game will be available for download where previously you had to purchase the DVD.

There is one major difference with the new business models from other free to play titles, there will be no micro-transactions to support the game and it will continue to be funded through subscriptions as free to play players are being locked into the special free to play zones. Paying members will have access to all areas in the full game.
