Atari reveals $7.5 million annual loss, will 'divest' Cryptic Studios

Star Trek OnlineAtari will actively try to sell Cryptic Studios, the makers of Star Trek Online and Champions Online, as the publisher announces annual net losses of $7.5 million USD.

That loss is actually an improvement on the $17.9 million shortfall Atari revealed for the financial year 2009-2010, but obviously not a great result for the company.

As a result of these less-than-stellar financials, Atari has announced that Cryptic Studios is now a "discontinued operation" (though will continue to support all the studio's projects while it looks for a buyer). This means development on Cryptic's Neverwinter project will continue as planned for now.

Community Representative 'Wishstone' confirmed to the Star Trek Online and Champions Online communities that the official line is that the games will continue to be supported, stating: "Support for Champions Online and Star Trek Online will be continuing as normal, our staff is working hard on their projects."
