Fable III's PC Hardcore mode explained

Mike West, Designer on Fable III, talks us through what we can expect from Hardcore mode and the reasons for its inclusion.

Speaking to IncGamers, West explained that the major differences between the standard mode (i.e. the way the game played on the 360) and the new Hardcore mode included in the forthcoming PC edition were improved enemy A.I., increased enemy attack damage and the removal of a regenerating health system.

When we asked about whether or not the player will be punished any more significantly for dying in Hardcore mode, West explained 'We haven’t implemented any more punishment. We’ve always found that death in itself is a punishment... if you die, and you’re punished for it, what you tend to do reboot...

'What you’re essentially saying to the player in that instance is that, ‘you’ve died, so now you have to play that bit over again’. That’s not a particularly fun thing to do.'

On the subject of whether or not the new mode would find its way onto the 360, West teased that 'If we do another add-on then it’s something we could include with that.'

He then went on to say that Hardcore mode has been implemented as a direct result of feedback Lionhead received in reference to the 360 version being too easy.
