Layoffs at two THQ studios

thqTHQ has confirmed that staff at both Kaos Studios (Homefront) and Volition (Red Faction: Armageddon) have been laid off.

Gamasutra reports those numbers as 17 staff from Kaos and 16 from Volition. Despite THQ trumpeting estimated sales of one million for Homefront this figure still only put the game halfway towards breaking even, thanks in part to huge advertising and marketing costs. In a statement relating to the Kaos layoffs, THQ said; "We have made changes to ensure that the team size aligns to the current stages of internal product development."

Red Faction: Armageddon is due for release until May of this year, but developers Volition have also suffered layoffs. "We have had to let go of 16 employees at Volition, our studio in Champaign, Illinois," THQ confirmed. As well as Red Faction, Volition are currently working on Saints Row: The Third.
