RIFT BT Port Issues Now Hit Virgin Media Customers

Virgin MediaThe RIFT BT port issues are still unresolved and the bad news this evening for UK gamers wanting to play the RIFT Open Beta is that Virgin Media users are now experiencing the same problems.

This may be down to the changes TRION made last night to resolve some of the port issues as there had not been any problems with the latency for Virgin Media customers  prior to last night patch.

With Virgin Media and BT being two of the largest ISPs here in the UK this is a big problem for TRION at this crucial open beta phase. We're pretty sure this will get resolved for launch, but it has meant that new players who were not in the previous Beta tests have been unable to get a taste of the game.

Yesterday's update from TRION stated that they should have this port problem sorted within 48 hours for BT customers but now it also looks like they'll have to tackle Virgin as well.

Last year Virgin Media caused all sorts of problems for WoW players when ports were throttled and this appears to be a similar issue. Both ISPs now appear to be treating RIFT data as peer to peer traffic and the connection is being throttled by the ISP's automated systems.

RIFT gamers can also keep an eye on RIFT: IncGamers for regular updates on this story.
