No New Blizzard Title this Year

During the quarterly conference call Blizzard has revealed that they do not expect to release a new title this year. They have stated that they do expect to release two titles next year which we can assume is Diablo 3 and possibly StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm.

World of Warcraft gamers will have to wait more than a year for the next game update as Blizzard are expecting to push out the next WoW expansion some time during early 2013.

Referring to Diablo 3, Blizzard's CEO Mike Morhaime added:

"We are very excited about Diablo 3. I am looking forward to sharing more news about the game and our upcoming Beta, during the next conference call.

In the long run Blizzard is geared for one major release a year, but the quality has to be there. that’s why nothing in 2009 but two in 2010. And the results speak for themselves. No date yet for Diablo III, but it was prudent not to commit to something we couldn’t make, or would require game quality compromises.stion: To follow up on Diablo III, who not in 2011? Can you give us a percent completed?
It’s coming along very well, we’re very happy with the development process. But until we get to beta and have the community help test the game, we’re not going to lock in a release date. Let me clarify the earlier remarks. We’re not locking into any date. We’re not committing to 2012. There’s no date set yet at all."

Even though Blizzard has stated that no new titles will be released this year, this could be purely for investor guidance. If they commit a 2011 date for Diablo 3 and the development slips it won't look good to investors.

With the next conference call a few months away, it could be safe to assume that the Beta for Diablo 3 could be live for BlizzCon in October with a release due early in 2012. I guess we'll know more in a few months time.
