Activision 'Exploring Options' Regarding Future Of Bizarre Creations
16 Nov 2010 at 20:14:27 by Peter ParrishWith rumours sweeping across the internet about the fate of UK developer Bizarre Creations, Activision has released an official statement confirming that 'options' including a "potential sale" are being looked at.
The statement, reported by Joystiq, reads "Although we made a substantial investment in creating a new IP, Blur, it did not find a commercial audience. Bizarre is a very talented team of developers, however, because of the broader economic factors impacting the market, we are exploring our options regarding the future of the studio, including a potential sale of the business."
Bizarre was purchased by Activision back in 2007 when, in happier times, commericial director Sarah Chudley told IGN "[Activision] 'get it'! They're a very developer-centric publisher, who work hard to nurture their studios by providing support if it's needed, but keeping out the way where it's not."
The developer is known for the Project Gotham Racing and Geometry Wars series', and also developed The Club, Blur and the recent James Bond: Blood Stone while under Activision ownership. It employs around 200 staff.
UPDATE: A representative has told Gamasutra that, in accordance with UK labour laws, the Bizarre studio has received a 90 day notice that closure or restructuring could take place.
