Electronic Arts will pull out of the martial arts fighting game market after a less than spectacular debut for its MMA title, an analyst has claimed.
The firm’s attempt to knock out THQ’s UFC Undisputed failed to materialise after EA’s title made its debut at number 23 in the charts.
Doug Creutz, analyst at Cowen & Company, told investors: “EA's recently released MMA appears to be more or less DOA (dead on arrival) at retail.
“UFC recently announced an extension of its license with THQ, likely putting an end to EA's efforts to expand into the mixed martial arts genre.”
THQ has extended its licensing deal with the UFC brand, allowing it to continue using the name up until 2018.
