Remember when we reported that Valve was adding an in-game "mannconomy" store to Team Fortress 2?
At the end of that news piece there was a now rather dismissive-looking paragraph suggesting that the developer was planning to share royalties with members of the community who created items for sale. Valve has now honoured that promise. In a big way.
Five people (Rob Laro, Shawn Spetch, Steven Skidmore, Spencer Kern, and Shaylyn Hamm) were chosen to participate in the first round of community-created content, and they each recently received cheques for the first two weeks of sales. The royalties ranged from a bonkers $39,000 USD to an absolutely bananas $47,000 USD per person.
"The response exceeded my wildest expectations," said Kern, his eyes spinning wildly in his head at the absurdity of it all.
