Final Fantasy XIV's Free Trial Period Extended

All Final Fantasy XIV players who registered a service account and purchased a character by October 25 will be entitled to an additional 30 days of free gaming, according to an announcement at the official site.

This decision is attibuted to "a wealth of constructive feedback from the community" and "the current state of the game," which is about as honest an admission as you're ever likely to get from a developer about the quality of their creation. Final Fantasy XIV has received mixed reviews since its release, with opinions trending towards the negative.

The extended free trial period will be followed by some updates to the game, coming in two stages (late November and mid-December.) Look below for a list of the planned changes.

Late November Update:

Adjustments and additions to the user interface
Adjustments to the Markets and retainers
Lowering of Teleport and Return costs
Adjustments to overall battle balance
Adjustments to class balance
Adjustments to party battle balance
Adjustments to monster placement
Adjustments to levequests
Adjustments to synthesis
Addition of new synthesis recipes
Alleviation of lag issues

Mid-December Update:

Addition of notorious monsters
Addition of new guildleves
Addition of new synthesis recipes
Addition of new items
