Valve Adds In-Game "Mannconomy" Store To Team Fortress 2

The latest Team Fortress 2 update released through Steam adds an in-game store system dubbed "the Mannconomy."

"Hats, weapons, tools, minigames, gifts and crates" can all be purchased from the store, which exclusively uses the recently introduced Steam Wallet system as currency (so now we know what that was for.)

A rather large FAQ about the system has been published by Valve, to address any major questions players have about this change. The developer is eager to stress that free updates will continue, as will the ability to earn and craft the kind of items found in the store.

These non-purchased items can now be traded between players too, adding an extra incentive to get hold of them the traditional way. Currently, there is a restriction on trading purchased items.

Valve has also announced that community-produced items will be sold through the Mannconomy, with a cut of the proceeds going to the creator(s) - though details regarding this are yet to be finalised.
