Analyst 'concerned' over Medal of Honor

As the war between EA and Activision rages in the press, the war involving the games themselves is only just beginning.  The two powerhouses of modern game publishing are set to go head-to-head over the next couple of months when Medal of Honor and Call of Duty: Black Ops go on sale from EA and Activision respectively.

Already under fire for its inclusion of the Taliban as a playable faction in the game's multiplayer component, one analyst believes that it's unlikely EA will be able to make good on their claim that this year the sales between the two games will be "dangerously close".

"We are increasingly concerned about the prospects for Medal of Honor," says Todd Mitchell, analyst for Kaufman Brothers. "The game is not developing the level of buzz necessary to knock Call of Duty off its perch."

Mitchell also cites the recent success of Halo: Reach, which replaced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 at the top Xbox Live most played list after almost a year at the top, as another factor that could lead to a less than impressive showing for Medal of Honor.

"We really don't see a rationale for owning all three of these games," said Mitchell before going to suggest that Medal of Honor's release is "ill-timed, sandwiched between the September 14 release of Microsoft's Halo: Reach, which recorded $200 million in first-day sales, and the November 9 release of Call of Duty: Black Ops."
