Following the closure of APB developers Realtime Worlds, owners of the title have been trying to ascertain the best way of getting a refund for the now-defunct game.
Yesterday, a spokesperson for the Realtime Worlds administrator Begbies Taylor stated "Customers should revert to the entity from which they bought the game in respect of their entitlement to a refund." However, people who have attempted to secure a refund from Steam report that the digital download service is directing people back to Realtime Worlds. "I bought this game from Steam around 3 months ago, they say i'm not entitled to a refund through them but from APB themselves," a typical APB forum post says.
While developer and retailers pass people between them, others have reported some success with contacting publishers EA. A Steam forum post relates several APB owners' successful attempts to get replacement games and vouchers out of EA Support's live chat service.
The original poster had an unused APB key, which probably added to their case. However, later on in the thread another poster claims to have received a compensation copy of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 without the need to quote an unused key. While EA has not issued any kind of official statement about APB refunds, it seems this may be a beneficial route to pursue.
