EA has announced that Need For Speed World, the racing MMO, will be fully free to play for all players from today.
Previously, players were able to play for free but would have their level capped at 10. Only those who had purchased a Need For Speed World "starter pack" (priced at around $20.00 USD) were able to progress to level 50 and access all features and game modes. Now, the level cap has been removed and all aspects of the game are open to every player.
EA has offered an in-game bonus of "three free 7-day car rental vouchers for the BMW M3 GTR, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 and the Audi R8 4.2 FSI Quattro" to anybody who splashed out on the "starter pack" prior to 8 September. However, judging by the comments appearing under the announcement post this does not seem to have appeased the many people who now feel they wasted their $20.00 USD.
"... just refund my damn money. This is total bullshit." says madd0g31. "I want my money back and all those cars to keep, not rent. RENTALS ARE STUPID!!!" adds NOSNIXSTER, seemingly quite miffed. Similar comments continue for upwards of 15 pages. EA has yet to respond.
