Codemasters has told IncGamers that its EGO engine, which will power the official F1 2010 game, has undergone a ‘large-scale reworking’ in order to cope with F1 speeds in its forthcoming title.
The acclaimed Colin McRae Rally: DiRT and Race Driver: GRID were both powered using the EGO engine, but this is the first time it has been used with F1 cars.
Paul Jeal, Senior Producer at Codemasters Birmingham studio, told IncGamers: “There has been a large-scale reworking of many of the car simulation components to cope with the extreme performance capabilities of F1 cars.
“For instance, to achieve the correct feel, the tyre simulation alone models the interaction of 50+ data tables and many numerical simulations at a staggering 1000 times a second.
“The simulation covers factors like; temperature, pressure, camber, wear, wetness, blistering, marble pick-up, gravel, grass, mud etc, all using real-world data, with 12 fully unique data-sets covering the 6 compound types, modelled separately for the front and rear tyres.”
F1 2010 will launch for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC on September 30.
