Blizzard has announced World of Warcraft will no longer be available on PowerPC based Macs when Cataclysm launches.
“Shortly before the release of Cataclysm, a patch will be released in which PowerPC processor based Macs will no longer be supported.” read the post from Jessicalu on the Mac forum on the official WOW forums. “This update indicates the removal of PowerPC support from World of Warcraft.”
Even if you try to play the game post-Cataclysm launch Blizzard has made sure you will not be able to run it. “Attempting to run the game after the update will bring up a message stating the hardware is no longer supported, and the game will not run.”
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm is scheduled for a 2010 launch and is currently in beta testing. Check out all the latest Cataclysm and WOW news over on the WOW IncGamers community site, including our recent exploration of Dustwallow Marsh and Feralas.
