Following the Defence Secretary’s call urging retailers to ban Electronic Arts’ forthcoming game Medal of Honor, the body that represents UK retailers has said its members will stock the title as long as there is demand from their customers.
The Entertainment Retailers’ Association, which speaks up for both Internet and high street stores selling games, music and movies, believes there is enough regulations in place to make sure only adults will buy the product.
Speaking to IncGamers, Kim Bayley, Director General of the Entertainment Retailers Association, said: "The UK has one of the strictest regimes in place in the world to govern the sale of video games, ensuring they are labelled accurately and defining their suitability for different age groups. This system, enforced by law, has been subject to intense public and governmental scrutiny, most recently in the Byron Review which reported just 1 year ago. Its recommendations have since been enacted in the Digital Economy Act.
"Medal of Honor has been passed for sale with an 18 certificate, and retailers will make their stock decisions based on demand from customers."
