Codemasters’ Jamie Macdonald has confirmed the developer is working on a new Operation Flashpoint game as well as creating a new DiRT and Race Driver: GRID title.
Talking in an interview with Develop, Macdonald confirmed the Southam studio was working on the three big titles.
“In Southam it’s full steam ahead with the next iteration in our Flashpoint series, as well as the next Dirt and Grid. It’ll be interesting to see how it all pans out.”
Gavin Cheshire, Codemasters VP of studios also assured everyone that the company would not be moving away from the UK after the recent acquisition of 50% of it’s shares by Reliance Big Entertainment.
“I can safely say that this is absolutely not the case. There are obviously some ‘strategic’ moves for both partners, but in terms of development at the level we’re at, it’s very much about Reliance investing in our skills and abilities over here in the UK.”
The team is also working on a brand new version of the impressive EGO engine which powered both Race Driver: GRID and the recent Colin McRae: DiRT 2.
Cheshire revealed, “The next F1 will show where EGO has got to at this stage. I think people will agree that it has probably got the best weather of any game ever seen. It is very powerful, but is also in an intricate stage right now.”
Finally adding, “We are focused on EGO 2.0 at the moment, which will be coming in with a massive title that we can’t talk about just yet. That will really keep us cutting-edge.”
So place your bets now, DiRT 3 or GRID 2 to be the first to feature the EGO 2.0? Expect a full announcement for all three titles in the upcoming weeks.
