Youngsters are being encouraged to start designing games with BAFTA launching the Young Games Designer awards.
Launching today the competition will encourage teams of 11-16 year olds in the UK to design their own game.
Designers will have to decide what platforms they want their game to feature on and how the controllers will be used for their chosen game.
A story and the games characters will have to be designed before deciding on how the gameplay handles. From there it’s all about creating a marketing strategy including the actual name of the game, the blurb and what unique selling points the game will feature.
The winning team will win the BAFTA Young Games Designer Award, a selection of computer game hardware and also a prototype of your designed game that will be developed by Abertay University in Scotland.
Not only that but the team will also win a work experience placement at Electronic Arts to delve even further into how the games industry works and what goes behind developing a game.
The winners will be announced in November at the EA British Academy Children’s Awards in London.
