Metal Gear Solid Creator Hideo Kojima has revealed the Japanese games industry is in a “losing” battle due to the younger generation “lacking the motivation.”
Through a collection of Tweets on his official English account, Kojima talks about a TV show where a group of foreign exchange students move to Japan because of their passion Magna and relates it to the games industry.
“The Game Industry is very similar” he revealed adding, “The West is very motivated. The younger generation of Japan is losing.”
“The designers and to-be-designers in the West have the focus, ambition, and ability to make their dream become true. So it is not the Japanese technology or culture that is losing, we are lacking the motivation.”
He went onto say that working with “highly motivated foreigners” is the “only way forward” and that he is “tired of taking care of people who do not have the passion.”
So anyone lacking that motivation better stay out of Kojima’s way. Especially if he is working on Metal Gear Solid 5 like the rumours this week has suggested. Then again we can always hope the port of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker comes to PS3 sometime despite it being difficult to do.
