Three Alan Wake DLC Packs Planned For This Year

Remedy's Matias Myllyrinne has confirmed that there will be a third DLC pack for Alan Wake this year.

In addition to the previously announced The Signal and the rumoured The Writer, "we'll have a further pack coming later on this year," Myllyrinne told MTV Multiplayer.

Alan WakeWe'll take that as confirmation of The Writer, then.

Be warned that what follows contains spoilers for the end of Alan Wake. Do not read on if you haven't finished the game and don't want it spoiled.

While Myllyrinne wouldn't give any serious information about what we can expect, he confirmed that The Signal - free to those who bought Alan Wake new - will take place after the end of the game. "We won't be grounded in the realm that we inhabit right now," said Myllyrinne, clarifying that we'll be in the strange world Wake finds himself in at the end of the game.

Could this mean we'll be seeing the torchlight/word interface make a return? "We have a nifty way of moving [the story] forward and materialising that into gameplay and storytelling without going into a mode of weirdness," said Myllyrinne.

"For a thriller to work you need it to be grounded in reality. Otherwise all bets are off because the rules don't really apply. So we wanted to have it kind of grounded in reality but also to take a more twisted take, because this is an extreme place and position he finds himself in."

When asked if The Signal would be similar to the last chapter's New York sequence, which felt incredibly off, Myllyrinne confirmed that there'll be real-world environments, but "there's something off" about them.

The Signal is due to hit in July. As our review shows, we reckon more Alan Wake is a very good thing, and we're looking forward to it.
