Remedy writer Mikko Rautalahti has said that an Alan Wake sequel depends entirely on the success of the first game.
"Well, it's certainly no secret that we'd love to make a second one if the first one does well," wrote Rautalahti on the Alan Wake forums, under the username MikkiRMD.
"But since the game isn't even out yet, it's really up in the air."
Still, a sequel wouldn't be entirely unexpected, as far as we can tell. Alan Wake creator Sam Lake told us that Remedy, from the very beginning, "intended Alan Wake to go on beyond this first game," and that it "gets to a kind of conclusion, but at the same time we open the door to something larger."
Remedy's Oskari Hakkinen told CVG something similar recently, noting that the team knows "where season two is going to go."
Alan Wake is out on Friday, and most reviews have been glowing. We adored it, certainly, describing it as "atmospheric, gripping, gorgeous, and clever."
