The Halo: Reach multiplayer beta has been detailed further by Microsoft and Bungie.
The beta, which starts on 3 May and ends on 19 May, will have a video introduction, free avatar goodies for those who partake, and an opportunity for those without Gold subscriptions will get the opportunity to join in the fun.
The video introduction, which should be available later today from your Halo: ODST disc, stars actress Aisha Tyler who walks you through the game modes and offers hints and tips for the maps, while handling some life-size Halo weaponry. Incidentally, anyone making a joke about their red Spartan Laser will be shot.
Once the beta kicks off, three playlists will be available, with more modes being made available as time goes on. We'll start off with Arena mode - 4v4 ranked Team Slayer games, essentially - as well as Free For All and Grab Bag playlists. On 7 May, the Invasion playlist will be made available, and then on 14 May we'll get access to Generator Defense. Check this past story for details on what these modes are.
All Xbox LIVE members will get the opportunity to join in the fun between 14 May and 17 May, though. That point is the Halo Multiplayer Unlock Weekend, and those without Gold LIVE accounts will be able to partake in multiplayer Halo 3, Halo: ODST, and Halo: Reach. As an added incentive, anyone who completes a full game of any type in the beta will get their avatar a free Halo: Reach hoodie, redeemable by accessing Halo Waypoint and browsing their career statistics.
The Halo: Reach beta starts on 3 May. If you're eager to see what you can expect, have a gander at our multiplayer hands-on. Other than that, we'll see you there.
