Nintendo has sent us over some info about what we can expect from co-op in Super Mario Galaxy 2.
Co-op, now called "Co-Star mode," has reportedly been enhanced with second players the world over taken on the role of a Luma.
This Luma is capable performing a Mario Spin to immobilise and knock them out, and will be capable of picking up coins. That said, it sounds like it's going to be very much pointer-based as with the first game - players hoping to take control of a physical avatar might be a tad disappointed.
There's also mention of Cloud Mario and Rock Mario suits. We saw Rock Mario art a little while back, and as you'd expect, that particular suit is capable of smashing through enemies as well as certain other bits and pieces, which will "reveal new things." Cloud Mario, conversely, gives Mario the ability to create up to three Cloud platforms to let him get higher up in levels.
And then there's Starship Mario, a planet-turned-spaceship acquired after finishing the first level that just so happens to look exactly like Mario. This is what Mario uses to travel between the levels, and it's apparently "harking back to the logical paths the classic Mario games took." As you proceed, Starship Mario will fill up with new characters and features, and you can wander it as you go through the game.
Sounds awesome to us. Super Mario Galaxy is due out in Europe on 11 June, and we really can't wait.
