Blizzard Makes Millions Overnight From WoW Pets

Blizzard Entertainment added another couple of in-game items to its World of Warcraft online store last night, sparking a rush from its vast subscriber base and possibly earning the company millions of pounds within hours.

General ScreenshotBoth European and North American players had access to the store's latest additions, which comprise of the mini-pet Lil' XT, a small version of one of the bosses in the game, and the first ever mount to appear in the store, the Celestial Steed. The mini pet will set players back by £9.00 GBP, $9.99 USD or €10.00 EUR. The winged mount, which will run or fly as fast as the character's skill allows, costs £17.00 GBP, $25.00 USD, €20.00 EUR. Both items are cosmetic only, and do not help or hinder characters in any way.

Within a couple of hours, the online queue for these new items was up into the thousands, with some sites reporting numbers of up to 140,000. Needless to say, with those sorts of figures, Blizzard has already raked in over a million pounds in the day or so since the items appeared.

Did you buy one of these premium items? How long did you queue, and do you feel it was worth the cash? Was the price too high for your tastes, or do you think you pay enough to play WoW already? Give your thoughts in the comments below.
