Quantic Dream has revealed sales of Heavy Rain have exceeded its expectations.
"We have sold more than 1 million copies of Heavy Rain worldwide," Quantic Dream co-founder and co-CEO David Cage announced in an interview with Play3.de via Gamespot.
"When you create a new, convention-busting game to the market, it's always a risk, both for the developer and the publisher" Cage added.
Heavy Rain launched in February and challenged all traditional game genres. Cage had apparently grounded his expectations due to the unconventional nature of the game and has been surprised by its commercial performance.
Commenting on the one million sales he added, "That was a surprise to many, since estimated sales were between 200,000 to 300,000 units. We estimate that by the end of the year, we will have sold 1.5 million copies, and are very pleased with the reception."
Heavy Rain was rumoured to support the upcoming PS3 motion controller Move, but Sony quickly denied the rumours saying it "couldn't comment". We were awe-struck by what Quantic Dream achieved with Heavy Rain and it's a must-buy for any PS3 gamer.
