Enigmatic Teaser Site Announces ... Something

The appearance of a strange teaser site full of Cold War imagery has led to considerable online speculation about its origins.

Multiple gaming outlets also received a curious package, containing an unmarked USB storage device. Coded information on the device pointed to the gknova6 site.

In what is perhaps a milestone for this kind of encrypted marketing nonsense, no-one seems to yet know what game the site is actually advertising. But that doesn't stop us making some educated guesses.

Call of Duty 7: Black Ops seems to be a strong bet. Techy sleuths over at Unfiction deduced that the site features a Google Analytics number that has been used by CoD publishers Activision on a number of occasions. Further to this, and perhaps most convincing, is the information that the USB package was also sent to a number of prominent CoD fansites.

That hasn't stopped some people from theorising that it could all relate to the forthcoming Fallout: New Vegas. But although the visuals contain 50s and 60s era nuclear imagery and the USB package was sent from Maryland (albeit not the part Bethesda are based in), Bethesda has stated that "... it doesn't relate to our games." F:NV is being developed by Obsidian, but will be published by Bethesda - which suggests we can remove Fallout from the list of suspects.

If you fancy a wild card option, Activision is also publishing a title by Raven Software called Singularity. This forthcoming first person shooter is based during the Cold War, so would fit neatly with the site's curious theme.

A card of even wilder nature would be The Outsider, a game being worked on by Frontier Developments. The USB package was sent with stamps featuring the face of Richard Wright, a 1950s author whose books dealt with the ugly nature of racism in America. One of his most famous works? The Outsider.

Yet another code within the site spells out "April Week Two," so all will no doubt be revealed soon enough. Don your tinfoil hats and keep watching IncGamers for updates.
