Ruffian: “We Don’t Do Cutscenes”

Crackdown 2 developer Ruffian has told IncGamers how it will handle the narrative in the open world sequel.

In an interview with Incgamers, Ruffian’s James Cope revealed that the developer wanted to avoid traditional methods of story-telling in Crackdown 2.

Crackdown 2“We have a narrative there for people to discover, so you find out more about the Agency and you find out more about the key components and the background to the world, but what we don't do is we don't sit people in front of cinematics and go “listen to this bit of story now,”” said Cope.

“We don't do cutscenes. We've never liked them. To us, it's about having an engaging experience where the player gets to choose what they want to know about the world. So if they find pickups that describe more of the backplot, they can listen to them on their own time, rather than forcing them down this route of break the gameplay, watch the cinematic.”

Cope also told us that the dev team had to can an entire game mode from the sequel. Find out more here and stay tuned for the full interview.
