All EA Games To Have Online Component

EA's third-quarter financial report has revealed that all games in fiscal 2011 will feature an online component of some sort.

Speaking in the earnings call, EA's chief operating officer John Schappert stated that "In fiscal 2011, every one of EA's releases will have an online component, both downloadable content and online play."

Mass Effect 2Schappert added that there will be "a full roster of titles coming from our online subscription site" as well as iPhone, mobile, and social gaming titles.

We've recently seen EA - and particularly BioWare - focus a lot on extensive downloadable content, with both Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2 containing one-use codes in the box to access a host of free content that ends up as paid content for those who purchase second hand, so it's no great surprise to see EA continuing down this road.

Chief financial officer Eric Brown noted elsewhere in the call that EA "will continue to introduce new service and product features that benefit unique registered purchasers on PC and console games," pointing out that the "most recent example is the Cerberus content network interface" from Mass Effect 2.

With or without this DLC both Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origins are truly spectacular titles, garnering some of our highest ratings in a long time.

To see which games will support this sort of online content, have a look at our list of titles coming from EA in fiscal 2011.
