The ESRB rating for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has revealed that the single-player campaign opens with a level set in World War II.
According to the rating summary (thanks to Connected Consoles) "players conduct missions on an unnamed Japanese island during World War II and then move into the modern day."
Presumably, this is down to exposition, and possibly a desire to shoehorn Wake Island in again. It does make us wonder whether this is related to the old announcement that Battlefield 1943 weapons would be appearing in Battlefield: Bad Company 2, though.
Other than that, the rating describes largely what you'd expect, but we did take note of "melee attacks with a power drill."
