Mortal Online: Server Stress Test Tonight

Mortal OnlineGamers with a registered account on the Mortal Online website can take part in the server stress test later today, in preparation for the game's launch.

Developers are inviting gamers to log on to the servers tonight at 21:00 GMT+1 to ensure they can handle all the players who will potentially be playing the game once the MMO gets off the ground. The beta client can be downloaded via the main site and it's around 2.8GB, so you may want to start downloading as soon as possible.

If you need a reminding of what Mortal Online offers, it's a fantasy MMO unlike any other so far. In the developer's own words:

“We would like you to please forget your preconceptions of MMORPGs. Mortal Online deviates from most modern fantasy MMO's, and although it contains a lot of elements from let's say World of Warcraft or Age of Conan, the playing experience is very, very different from those games.”

In brief, it's a sandbox style game where characters have no levels, no experience points, no quests and no third person view – that's right, it's entirely in first person. There's also no minimap and no instances. What it does have is player housing which can be built wherever players desire, and an incredibly intricate trade and craft system, whereby players will be able to craft every possible item in the game, of which there are millions.

Mortal OnlineThe game also features full looting of fallen opponents (which can be anyone you feel like attacking) including the clothes they were wearing, which is slightly more irritating than normal, because character skins in Mortal Online do not have the luxury of added undergarments. Full nude models made something of a stir when they were revealed last year.

Read our full feature on Mortal Online which goes into much more detail on the game, and be sure to check back for more news as it's announced, we'll be following it closely.
