Atlus has announced that Persona 3 Portable will be getting a western release.
As the name implies, Persona 3 Portable transfers the utterly magnificent PlayStation 2 RPG Persona 3 onto Sony's PSP, adding in a load more social links, events, romance options, and most tantalising of all, an all-new female protagonist.
Various improvements have reportedly been made across the board, too, including faster loading times, one-button menu shortcuts, and streamlined team equipment changes.
Persona 3 casts players as a schoolkid new to the big city. While players navigate school life in a Sims-style fashion (do you pay attention in class? Do you study at night? Do you go out to coffee bars instead, or hang around with friends?) they also have to save the world, surprisingly enough, from Shadows that appear during a mysterious Dark Hour that only some people can perceive.
Persona 3 was acclaimed by both critics and the public, described by me in many, many conversations as "probably the best RPG on PS2, and that's saying something," and it'll be available on American PSPs on both UMD and over PSN on 6 July 2010.
No word on a European release but we'll find out what's going on. I could really do with losing another few hundred hours of my life to this.
