Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has offered some details on the new DS.
The news comes from Japanese newspaper the Asahi Shimbun (via Kotaku) who spoke to Iwata about Nintendo's goals for the year.
The paper asked Iwata whether Nintendo planned to add iPhone-like functions to the DS, but the Nintendo president "dismissed the idea of a monthly service plan for playing games," according to Kotaku, and said that the company has no intention of adding these features in future DS models.
He did, however, say one thing about a possible DS successor: "[It will have] highly detailed graphics, and it will be necessary to have a sensor with the ability to read the movements of people playing."
This interview also contained a note that we might see the next Zelda by the end of 2010. So, a new Zelda game and possible information on a DS successor within the next 12 months? This could be a good year.
