The Secret Burnout Paradise DLC That Never Was

Burnout Paradise developer Criterion has revealed some of the DLC ideas that were considered for the game.

In a post on the official site - which the team describes as being like “one of the fabled 'missing' podcasts” - Criterion reveals that the team had plans for a “series of islands.”

One was an entirely off-road island, which is why the Dust Storm off-road buggy was created, while another was going to be exclusively for cicuit racing and would be “all marked up like a Formula One circuit.”

Burnout ParadiseThe post also reveals some of the more “out there” ideas which included recreating the surface of the moon (“Someone on the team said that 'players want the moon on a stick when it comes to DLC' We thought that was funny and thought we'd do it”) and time travel. The latter would involve a portal opening up and the player being transported back to the same island, in an earlier period of history. “Maybe the Wild West...you could have done some Challenges and then jumped back. (At this point, even some hardened members of The Burnout Team thought this was 'going a bit too far.')”

Other vehicles were also considered, like planes, helicopters and boats and Criterion even thought about implementing a cars vs bikes mode, although that was quickly dismissed once it was realised that bikes were unlikely to be able to take down cars.
